Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 June 2026

Converse is an app for recording short, prompt-guided conversations and sharing them with the people you choose. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Converse is operated by Maximilian Mitchell (“Converse”, “we”, “us”). If you have any questions, email us at [email protected].

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run Converse:

  • Account details. The username and email address you sign up with, and a password. Your password is stored only as a salted bcrypt hash — never in plain text.
  • A device identifier. Sent when you create an account to help keep accounts secure and prevent abuse.
  • Your recordings. The audio conversations you record in the app, together with their titles, descriptions, and the prompts used to guide them.
  • Transcriptions. Text transcripts of your recordings, which are generated automatically so conversations can be read as well as heard.
  • Profile and activity. Your “voiceprint” (a scannable identifier other people use to follow you), who you follow, and the recordings you like.
  • Technical data. Standard server logs such as IP address and timestamps, kept for security, reliability, and debugging.

Device permissions

The app asks for a few device permissions, only when a feature needs them. You can change these at any time in your phone’s settings:

  • Microphone — to record your conversations.
  • Camera — to scan a friend’s voiceprint.
  • Local network — to find a nearby phone so two devices can record together.

How we use your information

  • To provide the core service — recording, storing, and playing back conversations.
  • To transcribe your recordings and generate titles, descriptions, and conversation prompts.
  • To show your recordings to the audience you choose, and to power following, likes, and your profile.
  • To keep accounts secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.

Sharing your recordings

You control who can hear each recording. When you make a recording public, it can be seen and listened to by anyone, including through a shareable link. When you keep it private, it is limited to the audience you choose. Please make sure anyone you record is happy to be recorded and shared before you publish.

Service providers

We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers that help us run Converse:

  • AssemblyAI — your audio recordings are sent to AssemblyAI to convert speech to text (transcription).
  • OpenAI — the resulting text is sent to OpenAI to generate titles, descriptions, and conversation prompts.
  • Cloudflare — hosts the app’s backend and stores your recordings and account data.
  • Apple — distributes the app through the App Store and TestFlight.

These providers may process data in countries outside the one you live in. Where we use them, they are bound to handle your data only as instructed.

Keeping your information

We keep your recordings and account information for as long as your account is active. When you delete a recording, we remove it from the app and its transcript. If you close your account, we delete the personal information associated with it, except where we need to keep something to meet a legal obligation or to resolve disputes.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is wrong or out of date.
  • Delete your account and the data associated with it.
  • Export a copy of your information.

In-app account deletion is coming soon. In the meantime, email [email protected] and we’ll take care of it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, passwords are hashed, and access to our systems is restricted. No service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will let affected users know if anything goes seriously wrong.

Children

Converse isn’t intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date above, and significant changes will be highlighted in the app or by email.
